UN lauds Egyptian counter-terrorism efforts

CAIRO, Dec 24 (MENA) - United Nations First Undersecretary General of the Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov on Tuesday voiced appreciation of Egyptian efforts for fighting terrorism and extremist thought.

At a meeting with Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister Ihab Fahmy on the sidelines of a conference on fighting terrorism and empowering youth in Abu Dhabi, he lauded Egyptian efforts for drying up sources of funding terrorism at the national and regional levels, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

He noted that these efforts are supporting the UN strategy for fighting terrorism.

The two officials discussed means of enhancing joint cooperation in the fields related to fighting terrorism, said the statement.
