CAIRO – 28 November 2019: Egypt has received an invitation to participate in COP25 climate change conference due to be held in Madrid on December 2-13, said the Egyptian Ministry of Environment in a statement on Thursday.
In her meeting with Spanish Ambassador to Cairo Ramón Gil Casares, Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad affirmed Egypt’s keenness to participate in the conference that could result in tangible benefits to the developing and developed countries alike, the statement added.
Casares praised Egypt’s role in the international efforts concerning finding solutions to climate change threats, in light of Egypt’s current chairpersonship of the African Union, the statement read.
The ambassador noted that climate change is a pressing issue and that the whole world should raise public awareness of it, the statement continued.
At the 2019 Climate Change Summit that convened at the 74th Session of the UNGA meetings in New York upon a call by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in September, Egypt and the UK co-chaired a coalition on climate adaptation and resilience to raise funds to implement the resilience and adaptation strategies that address climate change impacts.
