CAIRO - 28 November 2019: Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit asserted that the Palestinian cause is a central issue for the Arab world, vowing that the Arab countries will persist in defending the Palestinians' inalienable rights to establish their own independent state and retain their freedom.

Abul Gheit's remarks were read out on his behalf by Assistant Secretary General for Palestine and Occupied Arab Lands Affairs Said Abu Ali in a solidarity event organized by the Arab League on the occasion of the International Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

Ambassadors and permanent delegates of the Arab states, foreign ambassadors, representatives of Arab and international bodies as well as a galaxy of Egyptian and Palestinian figures attended the event.

Abul Gheit also reiterated solidarity with the Palestinian people promising continued support to their struggle to restore their usurped rights.

He also denounced the recent moves by the US administration against the Palestinian side and the way Washington is exercising pressure to force the Palestinians to accept unilateral solutions to the problem, asserting that the US policy and its recent decisions are undermining any possibility for reaching a just solution to the long-standing Middle East conflict and sounded the alarm over the possible outbreak of more waves of violence in the region due to the US bias in favor of Israel.

He warned that the prejudiced US stances could embolden the Israeli occupation authority to increase its brutal practices and violence against Palestinians, affirming that Israel's settlement building will remain illegal regardless of any decisions.
