Debut student loans to be offered by Assiut University

CAIRO – 28 September 2019: Assiut University announced offering student loans for the first time to facilitate payment of tuition fees, in a debut facilitative measure of its kind in the history of Egyptian universities.

The decision comes within the framework of the keenness of the university administration to develop ways of providing support to students, and overcome various obstacles that may hinder their education path, besides reducing economic burdens on parents.

Assiut University President Tareq el-Gammal said that the loan aims at supporting middle-class students in the first place, by a maximum of L.E. 500 ($30.65) to cover the study courses’ fees, while students are required to phase out the money on three installments before the end of the second semester of the education year.

Vice President for Education and Student Affairs Shehata Gharib explained that students wishing to benefit from the educational loan should go to Social Assistance Office at the Youth Welfare Department at college, and fill the form that will determined the value of the loan.

There are eight faculties in Assiut University, where tuition fees ranges between L.E. 2,700 ($166) and L.E. 13,200 ($810), according to a chart published by Akhbar Al-Youm newspaper for governmental universities 2019/2020 fees.

All universities’ departments across Egypt have announced that students with special needs, orphans or sons of martyrs from army and the police will be exempted from university tuition fees.
