Sisi, Sánchez discuses boosting Egyptian-Spanish relations

CAIRO – 24 September 2019: President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met on Tuesday with Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on the sidelines of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

According to presidency spokesperson Bassam Rady, Sisi praised the relations between the two countries, and expressed Egypt's aspiration to continue upgrading those relations and activating the frameworks of joint cooperation at all levels.

For his part, Sánchez expressed his country's appreciation for the “friendly and cooperative” relations between the two countries, saying that Spain is keen on boosting and enhancing relations with Egypt in different fields, along with supporting the Egyptian economic efforts for developments.

Sánchez also said that his country is eager to continue discussions on ways of enhancing stability in the Middle East as part of Egypt's key role as an essential pillar of stability and security in the region.

Earlier, Sisi met with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron as he praised the strong relations between Egypt and France.

According to Rady, Macron described the relation between the two countries as “strong and historical”. He added that these relations are backed by the cultural bonds between both of the Egyptian and French people.

During the meeting, both leaders discussed the Libyan crises and its latest political developments.

The statement added that both of Sisi and Macron’s opinions agreed on intensifying the joint efforts and international cooperation seeking a comprehensive political solution for the crises.
