CAIRO 4 September 2019: Arab League (AL) assistant secretary general for Palestinian and occupied Arab lands affairs Dr Saeed Abu Ali said the UNRWA symbolizes the international community's responsibility toward the Palestinian refugees within its five operation zones since the start of its field action in May 1950.

In statements here on Wednesday, the Arab League official said the emergency meeting of Palestinian affairs supervisors in the Arab world, held on Tuesday at the AL headquarters in Cairo at the request of Palestine, mainly aimed at accelerating the issuance of an international vote with a vast majority to renew the mandate of the organization at the UN General Assembly meeting, slated for November 15.

The Palestinian delegation has presented a plan of action to support the renewal of the UNRWA's commission for three years 2020-2023 at the UN, he said, citing the continued US administration's biased stance toward the Israeli occupation and its attempts to carry out its schemes to end the final status issues, on top of which the recognition of the occupied city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

He called for an urgent move to secure a majority of votes for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
