CAIRO – 10 June 2017: A motion to include the injured and the families of the victims of the Minya terrorist attack in the National Council for the Care of Martyrs' Families was submitted to Parliament by MP Magdy Bayoumi on Friday.

Bayoumi added that they should be given all the services and benefits provided by the council and recognition by the government for their sacrifices for their homeland.

He also said that the government should be swift in compensating these families for the “severe damage inflicted upon them.”

On May 26, an armed group opened fire on a bus carrying more than 50 Christians in Minya, killing 29 and injuring many others, including children.

On May 30, the hospitalized victims of the Minya attack each received a check for LE 40,000, around $2,200, from the Ministry of Solidarity. The families of those killed in the attack each received LE 100,000, around $5500.

The ministry will also allocate a monthly pension of LE 1,500 ($82) for every victim.
