CAIRO - 26 June 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met Tuesday with EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry.

Avramopoulos said that Egypt plays a main role in establishing stability in the region. It is a shared interest to deepen our cooperation which will benefit the whole region, the statement added.

Earlier, Avramopoulos also met with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukryat the Foreign Ministry headquarters.

The discussion between the two sides focused on cooperation in migration and security files as well as the enhancement of joint cooperation to take meaningful measures to address the problem of illegal migration.

Avramopoulos will open the second round of migration dialogue between the EU and Egypt to continue the discussions that began in December 2017 with the aim of further developing cooperation in the field of migration between Egypt and the European Union.

In November 2018, Shoukry also met with the EU commissioner for Migrants in Addis Ababa. They mulled means of cooperation to address illegal immigration and Cairo's vision on the issue, said the Foreign Ministry's spokesman Ahmed Hafiz.
