Assar heads ministerial committee to deepen local industry in Egypt

CAIRO - 16 June 2019: In response to President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi's directives to take steps to deepen the industry in Egypt, Minister of Military Production Mohamed Saeed al-Assar met with ministers of investment, trade and public sector and senior officials.

At the Ministry of Military Production office, Assar affirmed during the meeting that the government should benefit from the 4500 factories established in 13 industrial zones across 12 governorates to reduce imports and increase the domestic component of industry.

For his part, President of Arab Industrialization Organization Abdel Moneim Altras affirmed that the authority with its large manufacturing capacity and trained manpower will cooperate with the Ministry of Military Production to deepen the local industry.

For his part, President of the Federation of Egyptian Industries Mohamed El Sewedy pointed out that the "National Program for Deepening Local Manufacturing" represents an important step towards increasing the competitiveness of the Egyptian industry and deepening the local industry.

Sewedy also highlighted the importance of the commitment of all government agencies to implement the law of preference of local product in government purchases, which contributes to increasing the dependence on national products, achieving compatibility between Egyptian and international products to increase the competitiveness of Egyptian products in the internal and external markets.

At the end of the meeting, the ministries agreed to form an executive committee of representatives of various authorities to exchange data and develop a plan to study the possibility of utilizing the 4500 factories in the 13 industrial zones spread across 12 governorates to reduce imports and increase exports.
