CAIRO - 15 June 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi visited early on Saturday the National Football Team in the Air Defense Stadium while training for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Egypt on June 21 - July 19.

The president wished the team members good luck, and asserted his confidence that they realize the heavy responsibility they shoulder. He urged them to devote hard efforts to please the Egyptian people who in turn pays them respect and appreciation.

President Sisi underlined that the team members must show discipline and decent behavior as they are a reflection of Egypt’s ancient civilization and its great people.

On their side, the players thanked the president for his visit promising they would do their best to rejoice the hearts of millions of Egyptians. They also gave him as gift a T-shirt having the signatures of all of them.

The president has also checked the facilities and arrangements at the stadium whose efficiency was being raised to host the tournament’s matches. The president said he aspires that the championship becomes a push for the Egyptian sports in general, and for football in particular since the sports infrastructure has been upgraded for the AFCON matches.

The Egyptian national team retreated one place in the FIFA rankings for the countries before the start of the African Cup of Nations. Egypt ranked 58th in FIFA rankings and came eighth among the African countries.

Egypt will open the 2019 African Nations Championship against Zimbabwe on June 21 at the Cairo International Stadium.

In preparation for the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) due to start on June 21, Egypt inaugurated three new metro stations in Cairo to facilitate the traffic of movements to the civilians and the African fans.

The stations are the first inaugurated stops in the four stage of the third line expansion in Cairo metro.

The new stations will help transport football fans from areas in Heliopolis, Alf Maskan, and Gisr al Suez to Cairo Stadium, which locates 500 meters away from The Stadium metro station in Nasr City.The AFCON starts on June 21 and ends on July 19.

The tournament takes place with the participation of 24 teams in six groups for the first time in the history of the African competition.

Tazkarti declared that the fans have flocked to receive their FAN IDs and tickets for the games they are willing to attend.

The Organizing Committee of the African Nations Cup has identified the following outlets:

First degree tickets: The following Orange branches (Heliopolis, Nasr City, El Rehab, Dokki, Downtown, Zamalek, Manial, Abbaseya, Shoubra, 6th of October, El Haram, Maadi&Mokattam).

2nd and 3rd degree: All the following youth centers (Al-Jazira Youth Center, Maadi Youth Club, Suez Club, Sheikh Zayed Youth Center at Ismailia, 6th of October, Horse Owners Club at Smouha, El Shams Club.)
