CAIRO, June 11 (MENA) - The Arab League hosted a workshop on the role of philanthropy and social giving in serving sustainable development, according to a statement issues by Head of the Sustainable Development and International Cooperation Department at the Arab League Nada el Ageizi on Tuesday.

Ageizi pointed out to the necessity of understanding the nature of social giving, philanthropy and charity work and how they have evolved over the years thanks to the contributions of both the civil society and the private sector, the statement added.

She also stressed the importance of the partnership between governments and the social giving sector to achieve the objectives of sustainable development, adding that international expertise has highlighted the role of confidence building through dialogue and exchange of information in decision-making.

She also reiterated that today's meeting could provide an important chance for reviewing some of the useful lessons drawn from joint cooperation between governments and the social giving sector in the Arab countries.
