CAIRO - 10 May 12019: The Arab League (AL) has condemned the targeting of civilians and shelling of a number of facilities in ongoing military operations in north-western Syria.

The pan-Arab body said this military action violates international law and undermines efforts to bring stability and peace to Syria.

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit is following up with concern humanitarian consequences of those military operations in north-western Syria, which left casualties among civilians and destroyed a number of facilities, such as hospitals and schools, AL Spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said in a statement on Friday.

Afifi added that the AL welcomes any efforts to counter terrorism, however any military strikes aiming at fighting terrorist groups, such as those that are being carried out in northern Hama and southern Idlib, should put into consideration the resulting casualties among civilians.
