CAIRO – 27 March 2019: Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said that countries that decide to relocate their embassies from Israel to Jerusalem put their relations with the entire Arab region at risk.

In a Tuesday statement, Aboul Gheit expressed his rejection and condemnation of the announcement made by Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernández and Prime Minister of Romania Viorica Dăncilă on their intentions to relocate their countries' embassies to Jerusalem.

"Countries that seek to please the United States and Israel by announcing transferring their embassies to Jerusalem are involved in a serious violation of the international law, which considers Jerusalem an occupied territory in 1967," said Ambassador Mahmoud Afifi, spokesman of the secretary-general.

Afifi said that the secretary-general of the League of Arab States stressed that countries that take such steps are risking their friendship with the Arab world, calling on them to review their negative policies, which do not serve peace in the region.
