Qatari opposition to mull forming national salvation gov’t

CAIRO – 5 June 2017: An emergency meeting bringing together prominent leaders of the Qatari opposition will be held to discuss forming a national salvation government that is set to include all forms of the Qatari society, a Qatari opposition figure said.

The Qatari embassies abroad have started to hunt down the opposition figures in an attempt to strip them of their nationality in order to frighten them, opposition figure and dissident of the royal family Sheikha Noof bint Ahmed Al-Thani told Egypt Today.

Earlier in the day, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain

cut their diplomatic ties

with Qatar over "its continuous support for terrorism," closing their airspace and seaports for Qatari transportation.

Later, Yemen and the eastern government of Libya joined the four Arab countries and cut their relations with the Gulf country over similar charges.

On Thursday, a dissident of the Qatari ruling family announced that opposition leaders will form

a political front against Emir of Qatar

Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s regime.

“We have long been silent about the irrational practices of the regime in Qatar,” royal member Saud bin Nasser Al-Thani told Egypt Today, noting that some royal members are not satisfied with Tamim’s foreign policy with the Arab and Gulf states.

Bin Nasser continued that the headquarters of the new party will locate to London; Qatar is one of the countries that bans political parties and has no electoral system.
