CAIRO – 29 May 2017: Descendants of Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdel Wahab, Al Elsheikh disowned the pedigree of Qatar’s ruling family, Al Thani, announcing that the 200 descendants in Saudi Arabia are the only lineage of the 18th-century cleric, in official statement released on Sunday.
The statement does not refer to Qatar or its Emir, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, but it mentioned that one of Gulf states built a mosque named after founder of Wahhabism Islamic doctrine, Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdel Wahab.
“We are Saudi citizens, we belong to this nation and we owe obedience to the governors’ orders. Anyone claims belonging to this family is a liar, like the Emir of one of Gulf states, who built Mohamed bin Abdel Wahab mosque, claiming that he is his great grandfather,” the statement that was published in Saudi newspaper, Okaz, reads.
Al Elshikh’s statement affirmed that bin Abdel Wahab’s lineage extends through his only four sons.
The statement reveals the deepness of rift between the two Gulf countries that was ignited by Tamim’s statements last week, where he publically attacked Saudi Arabia, alongside other Arab countries. Qatar officials have denied the statements, however, Gulf countries dealt with them as a true ones given by the young Emir.
