CAIRO - 16 November 2018: Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese received on Friday the envoy of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and and All Russia and his accompanying delegation in the Cathedral of St. Mark in Abbassiya.

The pontiff welcomed them at the papal HQ, and praised the deeply-rooted ties binding the two churches, spokesman for the Coptic Orthodox Church Polis Halim said in a statement.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev stressed on October 17 that Egypt is Russia's main partner in the Middle East.

During his meeting with President Abdel Fatah al-Sis, Medvede referred to the deep relations between the two countries and pointed out that the volume of trade between the two countries increased by one-third from last year.

The two countries are partners in large projects, the PM said, expressing hope that Sisi's visit will lead to more projects between Egypt and Russia.

Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi arrived on Monday in Russia to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

The summit will tackle boosting bilateral relations and other issues of mutual interest.

The talks come as part of a strategic partnership between the two countries.

Sisi also held talks with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and other senior officials on boosting economic cooperation.

Sisi delivered a speech before the Russian Federation Council, the upper house of the Federal Assembly. This is the first time for a foreign leader to deliver a speech at the council.

On December 11, 2017, Putin visited Egypt for the second time since Sisi was sworn into office in May 2014; the visit came upon President Sisi's invitation in September 2017.

In February 2015, the Russian president visited Egypt and attended the signature of a number of deals between Cairo and Moscow.
