CAIRO – 22 October 2018:Lebanon’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil is set to arrive in Cairo on Monday, Oct. 22 to deliver an invitation to President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to the 2019 Arab Economic and Social Development summit (AESD)in Beirut.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, Bassil will be delivering a number of invitations to other presidents and leaders during this tour.

Bassil will be meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, SamehShoukry, in Cairo to discuss several issues of mutual interest, including the political and economic relations.

According to Lebanese media outlets, AESD was formed as an exclusively economic and developmental conference that tends to involve the private sector, including banks, chambers of commerce, industry and agriculture.

Earlier in October, Bassil invited King Abduallah of Jordan to attend the summit during a meeting in Amman. According toan official statement, the meeting underlined “the brotherly relations” between the two countries, and emphasized the need to further sustain coordination and consultation on various issues of commoninterest.
