CAIRO - 15 October 2018: Climate change is not an environmental challenge but a development one because it affects all countries with no exception, said Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad on Monday.

Climate change has been the focus of many conferences for years but no real progress was realized so far because we are dealing with this issue as an environmental challenge and not as a development one, Fouad said during the second-day sessions of Cairo Water Week.

Ways of addressing this issue should be linked to development goals, she said.

In Egypt, for example, facing this serious problem should be linked to water resources in Nile Delta and coastal areas, she said referring to the signed agreement with Green Climate Fund to provide an appropriate infrastructure in Nile Delta to face climate change.

Providing suitable infrastructure in governorates is the main challenge facing Egypt when attempting to address climate change challenge, she said.
