CAIRO – 31 July 2018: The joint military training, "The Eagle Response 2018", launched by troops from the Egyptian naval forces and troops from the US, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE continues its exercises that kicked off on July 24.

The joint exercises, which are part of the military cooperation between Egypt and the US, have been taking place in the Red Sea. Troops from South Korea, Pakistan, and Jordan are participating as observers.

The exercises are part of a joint training plan set by the Armed Forces with brotherly countries to enhance the military cooperation and the exchange of training experiences.

The training activities focus on mines, safety methods, identification of search and detection equipment of mines, using remote control search vessels besides the joint practical exercises to conduct and practice the right to visit, board, search and seize (VBSS) suspect vessels, attacking and deploying on the coasts, according to the Egyptian Armed Forces’ statements.

Previously, Egypt hosted the U.S. biennial military exercise called "The Bright Star 2017"on the ground of the newly inaugurated military base, Mohamed Naguib, from September 10 to 20.

The joint military exercises are marked to be the first since the ouster of ex-President Muhammed Hosni Mubarak following a short hiatus in 2014 ordered by former American President Barack Obama.

Around 200 U.S. troops took part in the military exercises aiming at strengthening the military cooperation with Egypt whose role is vital in preserving the regional security and stability.

In late July, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi inaugurated Mohamed Naguib base which is considered the biggest military base in the Middle East and Africa.

The new military base includes 1,155 vital facilities, 72 training areas, a major conference hall, a large number of shooting ranges, and residences for the officers, along with 50 solar modules and a tank-transporting container of about 451 modern tankers.
