CAIRO – 24 July 2018: The third defendant in Gamal Abdel Nasser’s assassination case, Ahmed Atwa, said that he was not a member of the secret organization of the Muslim Brotherhood; he was a member of the Egyptian resistance against the English occupation in Egypt.

Atwa added in phone call with TV host Eman el-Hosary on Monday that he was trained in 1951 by the officers who orchestrated July 23 Revolution. Atwa was a member of a commando force which operated against the English troops in the Canal cities.

Atwa said that the Muslim Brotherhood lured him with another two college students into the attempt on President Nasser’s life in 1954. The three young men received the assassination plan from Hassan al-Hudaybi, the second general guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, according to Atwa.
