Pope Tawadros celebrates anniversary of 1952 revolution in Austria

CAIRO – 15 July 2018: The Egyptian Embassy in Austria organized on Thursday a ceremony in celebration of the 1952 revolution anniversary, according to the Egyptian Ambassador to Austria, Omar Amer.

In TV remarks on Thursday, Amer said that the ceremony was attended by Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria, who happens to be in an official visit to Austria.

During a phone-in with "Masa’ Dream" (Dream’s evening), broadcast on Dream satellite channel, the ambassador praised the development spree witnessed in Egypt during the past four years

Amer pointed out that all international organizations are closely following on development works taking place in Egypt, including Egypt’s nuclear program, adding that Egypt managed to cement itself as a distinguished international force.

He mentioned that Pope Twadros II delivered a speech during the ceremony held to mark the 66th anniversary of the July 23, 1952 revolution.

Pope Tawadros of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark arrived Tuesday in Austria after visiting Italy and the Vatican.

The pontiff was welcomed by the Egyptian ambassador and the embassy staff, in addition to some Austrian officials and Copts living in the European country.

Spokesman of the Coptic Orthodox Church Boulis Halim said in a press statement the pope attended a ceremony at Saint Antonios monastery in Vienna to present a book written by Austrian researcher Adolf Bayer.

During his visit to Italy, Pope Tawadros met Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the presidential palace and led on Sunday a mass at the Papal Basilica of St. Paul in Rome.
