Sisi welcomes Sudanese FM; hails Cairo, Khartoum relations

CAIRO – 30 May 2018: President Abdel Fath al-Sisi welcomed on Tuesday Sudanese foreign minister el-Dardiri Mohamed Ahmed and discussed with his several issues of mutual concern between Cairo and Khartoum.

Dardiri’s visit to Cairo considers being his first since officially taking office earlier on May. Sisi’s meeting with Dardiri came in the presence of Egypt’s foreign minister Sameh Shoukry along with the Sudanese ambassador to Cairo Abdelmahmoud Abdel Halim.

In statement issued by Presidency on Tuesday, Spokesperson Bassam Rady said that Dardiri’s selection for Egypt to be his first destination after taking office reflects his country’s keenness on persevering and maintain strong relations with Egypt in all levels.

During the meeting president Sisi hailed the Sudanese-Egyptian relations, hoping that the next period will continue witnessing momentum in the two countries relations at different levels.

Dardiri also meet with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry and held later a joint press conference with him. Shoukry described the Egyptian- Sudanese relations as “sanctifying” during his statements.

The two officials (Dardiri and Shoukry) discussed several political issues during their meeting, including the national, international challenges, along with the water security issue and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Both diplomats confirmed during their statements that Cairo and Khartoum Share a similar perspective regarding most of the discussed issues.

Dardiri said during the conference that the political situations in South Africa, Libya and other several conflict zones have been discussed during the meeting with Shoukry. He explained that both countries aiming to figure political solutions to most of the political conflicts.

“Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia overcame many challenges and problems during the past period, and capable of overcoming the rest of it.” Dardiri added.

Dardiri invited President Abdel Fath al-Sisi to visit Sudan next October per president Omar al-Bashir request, a summit is scheduled to take place between the two leaders by then.
