CAIRO – 11 May 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Ghanaian counterpart Shirley Botchway signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a mechanism of political consultation between the two countries, said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid, in a Thursday statement.

Abu Zeid stated that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met Botchway during his visit to Ghana. The visit aimed at discussing bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual interest.

According to Abu Zeid, the foreign minister stressed that the relations between Egypt and Ghana date back to the national liberation period, which witnessed close ties between the late leaders Gamal Abdel Nasser and Kwame Nkrumah.

He added that Shoukry carries a message from President Sisi to his Ghanaian counterpart on ways to promote bilateral relations in all fields.

Ghana’s foreign minister mentioned that there are multiple areas of cooperation between the two sides, including education, agriculture and capacity building, suggesting the importance of establishing an official framework for cooperation between the two nations in these fields.
