CAIRO – 8 May 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi congratulated pro-European centrist Emmanuel Macron on winning the French presidential election on Sunday, according to a statement by the Egyptian Presidency.

Sisi also congratulated the French people on the successful completion of the election, and wished them and their leadership further progress and prosperity.

“President Sisi stresses the depth and strength of Egyptian-French relations and looks forward to working with the French President-elect to promote and develop close cooperation between the two countries in various fields to achieve the interests of the two friendly nations,” the statement read.

The 39-year-old president-elect won 66 percent of the vote count against 34 percent for his rival, anti-EU far-right nationalist Marine Le Pen, on Sunday.
