CAIRO – 31 March 2018: In accordance with Article 144 of the Constitution, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will take the oath of office in front of the House of Representatives before assuming the presidency and carrying out any duties of the office.

The Constitution does not specify an exact date for the president to take the oath, but it stipulates that the president shall take the oath before June 7.

No articles in the Constitution stipulate that the newly elected president should withdraw confidence from the current Cabinet, but Cabinet members used to submit their resignation after the end of the presidential term.

Meanwhile, the governors should submit their resignation according to the law of local administration, which stipulates that they should resign at the end of the presidential term.

If the new president wants to withdraw confidence from the Cabinet, he should acquire the approval of the absolute majority of members of Parliament.

The president is not is constitutionally committed to address the citizens after assuming the presidency. The matter depends on the president's desire to do so.

According to the preliminary results, President Sisi attained a landslide election victory against Al-Ghad Party candidate Moussa Moustafa Moussa.

Initial figures show that 21,088,295 voted for Sisi in polling stations across Egypt, excluding several stations in Cairo and Giza, while Moussa gathered only 682,797 votes.
