CAIRO –29 March 2018: Egypt’s presidential election is the best election that has ever been done, in terms of integrity and commitment to the international standards of the electoral process, Adel bin Abdul Rahman al-Asoumi, deputy speaker of the Arab Parliament said on Thursday.

In a press conference held on Thursday, Asoumi added that the electoral process was not marred with any negative remarks from the organizations that were monitoring the election.

He further said that the parliamentary delegation that was sent to follow up on the Egyptian election was composed of 14 Parliament members from 12 Arab countries. He added that they inspected 453 committees in four governorates, and prepared a preliminary report on the electoral process. “The final report will be submitted to the National Election Authority (NEA).”

Assoumi concluded by congratulating the Egyptian people on the success of the election, noting that the cooperation of the Egyptian officials with the parliamentary delegation is ongoing.

Several national and other nongovernmental organizations monitoring the electoral process confirmed that the electoral process in Egypt met the international standards.
The Egyptian voter exercises his constitutional right to partake in the electoral process with ultimate responsibility, Dalia Ziada, president of the Liberal Democracy Institute said on Wednesday.

In her interview with the TV satellite channel ON Live on Wednesday, Ziada contended that the participation of the Egyptians in the presidential vote is the deterrent to terrorism and countries that sponsor it.

Riyadh Issa, president of the organization of Nazaha (Integrity) that has long experience in the international election observation, said that the standards set by the National Election Authority (NEA) concerning the electoral process go in line with the international standards.

In his interview with ON Live on Wednesday, Issa said that the organization observed some minor violations that will be briefed to the media in its forthcoming report. Ayman Okail, spokesman for the coalition of Nazaha (integrity), said that the coalition consists of 560 local and 35 international observers who work according to criteria based on the agreed standards for free and fair elections.

A total of 54 local organizations, nine international organizations and 680 foreign correspondents received permits to observe the electoral process in Egypt.
