CAIRO – 24 March 2018: Ambassador Mahmoud Akram, General Coordinator of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s 2018 presidential election campaign, extended his thanks to Egyptians living abroad for their intensive participation in the electoral process.

The Egyptians’ sense of patriotism and love for their country was reflected in the Egyptian expatriate community’s participation in the voting process, Akram added.

In a related context, the campaign is slated to meet up with a delegation from the African Union to discuss the developments of the campaign and its strategy concerning the election. The campaign has held several meetings with a number of ambassadors from different Arab and African countries.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and Moussa Moustafa Moussa are the only candidates approved to run in the election. The voting process officially commences for Egyptians residing inside the country from March 26 to 28.

The Interior Ministry also announced a high alert across the country in view of the upcoming election. The interior minister stressed that he himself is supervising the election’s security plan and is constantly contacting his aides to ensure that all security measures are heightened in the face of any potential terrorist attack that may occur to disrupt the “democratic festival”.

Also, regular patrols will increase around polling centers and facilities.
