CAIRO – 2 May 2017: Females represent 75 percent of unemployed Egyptians, and the labor force is above the world average, Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) head Abu Bakr el-Gendy said Monday.
In a phone interview on Al-Hayat, Gendy said Egypt's labor force amounts to 29 million citizens. He added that 12 percent of the Egyptian population are unemployed, 35 percent of which are university graduates.
The statistics are built on the newly-introduced electronic census system currently being conducted by CAPMAS.
According to the World Bank, the unemployment rate in Egypt reached 12.4 percent in the final quarter of 2016, recording higher rates among youth and women.
