NEW YORK - 6 March 2018: At least 1,000 children have been killed in the ongoing war in Syria, said the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Tuesday.

"Not tomorrow. Not next week. Not next month. Stop the attacks on children, schools and hospitals in Syria", the UNICEF posted on its official twitter account.

"The cease fire needs to start now", the UNICEF added.

In February, the UN children’s agency released a statement in line with the violence escalation in Syria, to object to the suffering of the children in Syria's Eastern Ghouta.

Earlier in the day, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) noted that 30 children have been killed by Turkish shelling in the Syrian region of Afrin, within the framework of Ankara's military operation against Kurdish forces in the Syrian region.
