CAIRO - 29 April 2017: The trial of the owners of Egyptian private companies, over charges of wasting EGP3b in the New Cairo water project, is scheduled to begin June 3.

Four officials at the New Cairo water project, including a designer consultant, were referred to the North Cairo Criminal Court.

A number of private company owners were embroiled in importing water pipes, which do not match quality standards. In 2007, they procured those pipes for the main-line of New Cairo water project, endangering citizens’ lives.

The Public Persecution imposed a travel ban on the defendants and froze their bank accounts.
