Egypt rapporteur of 30th FAO Regional Conference for Africa

KHARTOUM - 22 February 2018: Egypt has been elected rapporteur of the 30th FAO Regional Conference for Africa (ARC) by the participants of the ARC ministerial meetings, currently held in Khatroum.

Egyptian Agriculture Minister Abdel Men'em el Banna is expected to give a speech at the conference, in which he will review steps that have been implemented in Egypt to achieve a true and sustainable agricultural development, said a statement by the Agriculture Ministry on Thursday.

The Egyptian minister will also shed light on the opportunities available in Egypt thanks to the mega agricultural projects launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

This year's FAO regional conference for Africa is held under the theme “Sustainable Development Of Agriculture And Food Systems in Africa: Improving the Means Of Production And the Creation of Decent And Attractive Employment For Youth” with the participation of more than 38 African ministers of agriculture along with senior regional and international experts and officials specialized in agriculture and food sectors.

This year's edition aims at tackling the latest challenges pertaining to food and agriculture spheres as well as boosting regional connectivity in view of the world policies and political causes.

Banna arrived in Khartoum Wednesday to take part in the ARC meetings. He was received by the Sudanese ministers of agriculture and livestock alongside Egypt's acting ambassador in Sudan, Karim Essam.

Banna is scheduled to hold, on the sidelines of the FAO regional conference, several meetings with a number of Sudanese officials including the ministers of agriculture and forestry and livestock and the Nile State governor for talks on activating bilateral cooperation.
