RAMALLAH - 14 February 2018: Omani Foreign Minister Youssef Ben Alawi said establishing an independent Palestinian state is a strategic necessity that all parties should seek to achieve, the Palestinian News Agency reported.

The Omani top diplomat's remarks were made upon his arrival at Jericho to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and a number of Palestinian officials.

He asserted the importance of his visit to the Palestinian territories to get briefed on the Palestinian vision regarding current problems that face the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, which he termed as a necessity in view of current developments in the Middle East region.

He also asserted the support of Omani Sultan Qaboos bin Said to such issue.

Alawi noted that ties between Oman and the Palestinians are deeply rooted, praising the efforts of Abbas in achieving peace in the Palestinian territories. He also voiced his country's backing for the Palestinian people, urging Arab countries to visit Palestine to show their support.
