CAIRO – 26 January 2018: Water and sewage companies in Egyptian cities have drain streets of the excessive water from the rainfall over the last two days that is expected to continue over the coming days, according to Egypt’s Meteorological Authority.

The wave of bad weather and rainfall that hit Cairo caused several flights to be delayed on Thursday January 26. The rain is expected to continue along Egypt’s northern coasts and some other governorates.

Since yesterday the Alexandria Port Authority decided to close the Alexandria and the Dekheila harbors due to bad weather and high wind velocity.

The decision is meant to prevent ships collisions and ensure the safety of maritime navigation, affirmed an official in the Alexandria Port Authority.

Due to heavy rains across Egypt, General Directorate of Traffic (GDT) has deployed traffic relief cars on the roads to help citizens in case of traffic accidents.

Heavy rains caused flooding and the eventual closure of El-Tagamoa’s roads, leading to traffic congestion. Traffic police officers have also closed off the October Bridge to keep the cars from slipping due to the accumulation of rainwater in some areas.

Several flights were also disrupted yesterday, as sources told Egypt Today that flights departing from Cairo on Thursday morning were delayed due to the bad weather wave that hit the country.

The flights conducted by EgyptAir: number 719 and 739 heading to Oman, and flights number 650 and 658 heading to Abu Dhabi, were delayed. Other flights heading to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Sharjah were announced to be delayed as well.

The bad weather wave is expected to continue for the coming few days.
