CAIRO – 19 April 2017: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi visited the headquarters of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) Wednesday and explored the details of the newly introduced electronic census system, according to a Presidential statement.

Sisi was accompanied by Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Minister of Planning and Administrative Reform Hala El Said, Major General Abu Bakr al-Gendy, the head of CAPMAS and a number of ministers and senior staff working on the census project.

In a presentation before the President, Gendy explained the elements of the electronic census, including the technological infrastructure and the selection and training of the workers.

Supervisor of the project Hussein Abdel Aziz also presented the measures taken to apply the electronic census across the country and the results of the first two phases that have already been executed.

The president also watched a documentary about the project and reviewed his personal information recorded in the census.

This is the first time Egypt applies the electronic census, which has replaced the traditional face to face interviews and paper forms used in the previous 13 censuses in Egypt’s history.

Sisi concluded the visit by expressing his appreciation for the efforts of 40,000 workers, who have been working hard to guarantee the success of the project.
