CAIRO – 13 April 2017: A lawsuit filed before the Administrative Court at the State Council Sunday demanded the Egyptian Government recover the smuggled money and assets of former President Hosni Mubarak and his money in Egypt.
The lawsuit demanded the assets be seized and added to the state treasury, for the benefit of the Egyptian people.
“The Egyptian people suffered injustices, as well as economic, educational and health corruption for 30 years; and it is time that the Egyptian citizen recovers his rights . . . estimated at EGP70 billion owned by the former president,” the lawsuit stated.
Mubarak filed a lawsuit in March to unfreeze over EGP60 million of his assets, a few days after Egypt’s Attorney General approved his release and acquittal on charges of killing protestors during the events of January 25 Revolution.
Mubarak’s assets, along with those of his family and a number of officials and businessmen, have been frozen pending corruption and embezzlement investigations.
The lawsuit was filed against the Egyptian president, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the speaker of the House of Representatives.
