CAIRO – 28 December 2017: An armed forces officer killed and five others injured n Thursday evening when an explosive device detonated inside a vehicle belonging to the armed forces during security raid on a terroist hideout on Thursday evening, according to the Military spokespoerson Tamer al-Refae.

In another context, the Second Army Field Law Enforcement Forces managed to eliminate three militants carrying large amounts of weapons and ammunition, improvised explosive devices and four vehicles.

This came within the armed forces ongoing counter-terrorism operations in North Sinai, aiming at eliminating terrorists and Takfiri elements, and to eradicate their breeding grounds and hotbeds.

North Sinai has been a staging ground for militants operating in Egypt for decades. It is also home to the Islamic State’s Egyptian branch, which has been primarily targeting Christians and security forces in the area.
