CAIRO – 10 December 2017: An airplane flew 20 people, who were seriously wounded during the October 14 deadly Mogadishu truck bomb on Saturday to Cairo, Egypt. They were brought to Cairo for medical treatment, according to officials.

Egyptian hospitals have been prepared to receive the wounded from the deadly Mogadishu truck bomb for medical treatment.

The remaining wounded people were taken to other international partners of Somalia, including Turkey, Kenya and Sudan.
Djibouti has sent medical supplies and doctors in the wake of the blast. Also, a Turkish air ambulance in Mogadishu flew 50 seriously injured people to Turkey on October 16.

The terrorist group, Al-Shabaab, has been fighting to overthrow successive internationally-backed governments in Mogadishu since 2007, and has frequently deployed car and truck bombs against military, government and civilian targets.

It vowed to increase its attacks after both U.S. President Donald Trump and Somalia’s recently elected president announced new military efforts against the group.

The huge October explosion destroyed many buildings in the capital's busy Kilometre 5 neighborhood and left 512 dead and 295 wounded.

Since the explosion The United States, which supports Somalia's fledgling army and carries out its own operations against Al-Shabaab and the separate self-proclaimed Islamic State group in the north of the country, has increased the frequency of air strikes targeting Jihadist leaders.
