Former Secretary-General of Arab League Amr Moussa
CAIRO - 8 December 2017: Former Secretary-General of Arab League, Amr Moussa, denounced Thursday the U.S. President Donald Trump’s acknowledging of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, saying such a decision will come with consequences, describing the decision as a 'historical mistake.'
During his interview with the American news network CNN, Moussa said that the declaration will definitely affect the peace process, and it will cause a wave of outrage and frustration from Muslim and Christian Arabs in the Middle East.
"There will not be a peace process, and if there will be, the U.S. will not play a part in it," Moussa told CNN host Becky Anderson on Wednesday.
"This decision provokes Palestinians' feelings, and I don't think the U.S. seeks that," Moussa added, asserting that the declaration will leave no sense of logic to listen to President Trump anymore.
On Wednesday night, U.S. President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel during a televised speech from the White House.
Trump’s decision was met by a barrage of criticism and condemnations from many Arab and world leaders. Protests have since broken out in the Gaza strip, West Bank and different locations across the Arab world.
