Morsi’s re-trial for conspiring with Hamas adjourned to Dec. 13

CAIRO – 3 December 2017: The Cairo Criminal Court has adjourned the retrial of former President Mohammed Morsi and 23 members of the Muslim Brotherhood group to December 13.

The trial includes group leader Mohamed Badie.

The defendants face charges of collaboration with foreign organizations outside the country, revealing national security secrets and coordinating with armed groups inside and outside Egypt to launch terrorist attacks inside Egypt.

The incidents of the case date back to 2011 during the January 25 Revolution, when Morsi escaped from Wadi al-Natroun prison and participated in an assault on security forces.

The prosecution charged the defendants with conspiring with the political bureau of Hamas, the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Lebanese Hezbollah against the state to spread chaos across the nation.

In June 2015, the Cairo Criminal Court issued a death sentence in the case against Morsi, MB supreme leader Mohamad Badie and other key figures of the terrorist group.

In November 2016, the Court of Cassation annulled the sentences and ordered a retrial of the defendants.
