CAIRO – 1 December 2017: A high profile official, speaking under the condition of anonymity, told Egypt Today that Cairo University has terminated the political activist and assistant professor Amr Hamzawy, due to his prolonged absence from work at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science.

The university sent three warnings to Hamzawy who has been absent from work without permission, adding that his secondment to the American University in Cairo had ended; he did not reply to the warnings.
