CAIRO - 2 March 2017:President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met with Lebanese Cardinal Bechara Boutros al-Rahi and Iraqi Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Babylon Louis Raphaël I Sako Thursday in the Presidential Palace in Cairo, presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef said in a statement.

The three discussed the role of inter-faith dialogue in enhancing the morals of forgiveness and peace, and President Sisi highlighted the clergymen’s role in combating extremist ideology, Youssef added.

“President Sisi, during the meeting, expressed Egypt's keenness on enhancing the security and stability of Lebanon, Iraq and all Arab countries, especially in light of current circumstances, which requires more effort to achieve a national consensus within the Arab countries,” Youssef said.

The two religious figures were visiting Egypt to participate in the inter-faith dialogue conference organized by Al-Azhar, the leading Sunni Islamic institute in Egypt, on Wednesday.
