CAIRO – 7 November 2017: The Texas church shooting that took place last Sunday is the fifth deadliest shooting incident in recent American history, Time magazine reported.

On December 2012, another massacre took place at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, when 20-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children between six and seven years old, as well as six adult staff members.

Prior to driving to the school, he shot and killed his mother at their Newtown home. As first responders arrived at the scene, Lanza committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

The deadliest incident in recorded U.S. history was in Las Vegas in October this year, when a gunman killed 58 people at a music concert from a hotel room, Time stated.

Devin Patrick Kelley, who killed 26 people at a Texas church shooting on Sunday, had a history of disturbing behavior, according to criminal and U.S. military records. He was court-martialed in 2012 for assaulting his then-wife and child, confined for 12 months and then given a bad conduct discharge from the U.S. air force in 2014, according to an air force spokeswoman.

According to the Mother Jones’ database of massacres, 2017 has so far witnessed 112 fall victims to shootings; exceeding any other year in recorded history in the United States.

In 2016, 71 people were killed and 83 injured in separate shootings, while in 2015, 46 people were killed and 43 wounded, according to Mother Jones.
