CAIRO - 7 November 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday had talks with his Finnish counterpart Timo Soini on the sidelines of the World Youth Forum, now in session in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el Sheikh.

The two ministers discussed means of promoting bilateral relations and exchanged views on the current regional situation, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

Shoukry reviewed at the meeting the economic reform program that is implemented by the Egyptian government, added the spokesman.

He indicated that the positive outcome of the reform measures, that were hailed by the International Monetary Fund and credit rating international foundations concerned would encourage Finnish companies to invest in Egypt, the spokesman pointed out.

Shoukry underlined investment opportunities in Egyptian industrial zones and the Suez Canal area, added the spokesman.

The Egyptian foreign minister also explained Egyptian efforts for combating illegal migration, highlighting the role of border and coast guards on this score, which minimized illegal traffic via the Egyptian coasts in 2016, said the spokesman.

The Finnish minister underscored the importance of his country's relations with Egypt in light of the status of Egypt as a cornerstone of stability in the Middle East, said the spokesman.

He lauded economic achievements realized by Egypt and expressed hope for enhancing joint trade and economic cooperation, added the spokesman.
