CAIRO – 3 November 2017: Health Minister Ahmed Emad said that Egypt is to establish a blood derivatives factory within months, under the auspices of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, during an interview on DMC channel on Friday.

He added that blood derivatives and Hemophilia medicines are considered a national security case, as there are only seven factories in the world. Sisi emphasized the need to thus prioritize the needs of the people.

“If these factories do not provide us with medicines, there will a great demand,” Emad said.

Emad said that the country tried to build such a factory in the era of President Anwar Al-Sadat, but the project was never completed after blood samples were sent abroad and never returned.

Emad described that decision with good news for Hemophilia patients, whose needs are imported at high expenses.
