CAIRO – 2 November 2017: The Egyptian presidential pardon committee will resume working on a new list of pardon recommendations following the World Youth Forum (WYF), set to take place between November 4 and 10 in Sharm el-Sheikh, MP and member of the committee Tarek El-Kholy said Thursday.

He added that the committee will hold a number of meetings after the end of the WYF to determine the cases of youth eligible for pardon in accordance with the terms, regulations and provisions stated in the presidential decision formulating the committee.

This is the fourth list of pardon recommendations the committee is preparing for presidential review since it was formed in October 2016 by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to review the cases of those imprisoned in politically related crimes.

Kholy further added that the committee cooperates with associated ministries to formulate rehabilitation programs for the prisoners who have been released in the previous lists.

President Sisi issued three previous pardons for hundreds of prisoners who had received final prison sentences in protest-related cases.

Article 155 of the Egyptian constitution stipulates that the president is entitled to issue a pardon or mitigate a final sentence after consulting with the Cabinet.
