Sorting of vote on UNESCO new Director-General begins

CAIRO - 9 October 2017: First round voting on UNESCO's new Director-General has just concluded, witnessing the participation of 58 member countries of the organization's executive board.

Seven candidates are nominated for the post, including Egypt and Africa’s nominee Moshira Khattab.

The voting took place in the presence of Minister of Higher Education Khaled Abd el-Ghafar, and Egypt's Ambassador to France and permanent delegate in the UNESCO Ehab Badawy.

Chairman of UNESCO executive board Michael Worbs is expected to announce the results of the first round soon.
