CAIRO – 9 October 2017: Dar al-Iftaa's third international conference entitled "Role of Fatwa in Societies' Stability," will run from October 17-19; with the exclusion of Qatari representatives.

"Qatar, Turkey and Iran are not invited to the conference," Dr. Ibrahim Negm, advisor to the Grand Mufti and the secretary-general of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, said Sunday.

Negm said that the conference aims to gather Muslims' voices at Islamic moderation, unify the efforts of various platforms of fatwa (Islamic scholarly opinion on an issue) and achieve cooperation among them; limiting the state of controversy caused by conflicting fatwas.

Concerning media, Negm said that the conference is going to plan a code of conduct that would put an end to the chaotic reporting of fatwas in media. It will also review the experiences of fatwa institutions to prevent odd fatwas from circulating.

"The conference includes more than 60 Islamic scholars from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, Mauritania, Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia, India, America, European countries and Australia."

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi sponsors the conference. "Sisi's sponsorship of the Third Fatwa Conference reflects his keenness to contribute in maintaining stability in the country," said Negm on October 3.
