CAIRO – 6 October 2016: Security forces in Gaza have ended contracting a buffer zone on borders with the Egyptian Sinai, according to Director General of the Internal Security Forces in Gaza Major General Tawfiq Abu Naim.

He added in statements to Egypt Today Friday that the zone includes barbed wire, CCTV cameras and a control room to monitor everything; however, a press conference is expected to be held soon to announce all the details.

The Hamas movement announced on September 17 the dissolution of the administrative committee in the Gaza Strip, inviting the Government of National Reconciliation to assume its duties and hold general elections. The movement affirmed it would comply with the Social Reconciliation Accord signed in 2011.

Earlier, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that there is no country as vital to the Palestinian cause as Egypt due to its historical and political position in the region. “Egypt has an opinion, a position and an interest in the Palestinian cause,” said Abbas.
