CAIRO – 5 October 2017: Saudi King Salman bin Abdel Aziz, and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman congratulated President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi on the 44th anniversary of Egypt’s victory in the October 6 War in 1973.

King Salman delivered his wishes of prosperity, development and happiness for the president and the Egyptian people.

Saudi Arabia, along with other oil exporters, supported Egypt in liberating the Sinai Peninsula from Israeli occupation. Arab oil exporting states imposed an oil embargo against the United States, and other states for their support of Israel, which caused the 1973 energy crisis quadrupling the price of oil per barrel.

The embargo was in response to former U.S. President Richard Nixon's authorization, which allocated a major arms supply and $2.2 billion to Israel, on October 19, 1973.
