Parliament to organize visits to “influential” countries

CAIRO – 16 September 2017: The Human Rights Committee at the parliament will organize visits to “influential” countries to reply to the “claims” made in the Human Rights Watch (HWR) report on Egypt, committee member Mohamed El Komy said on Saturday.

The MP told Egypt Today that the committee is drafting a report including its replies, and will send it to all countries worldwide.

The committee had formed delegations to visit prisons, detention places, hospitals, and care facilities, and their observations will be included in the report.

HRW issued a report alleging security forces in Egypt of torturing detainees. The report was described by Egypt State Information Service (ESIS) as flawed and biased because of its methodology where it depends on one researcher only, and because it is lacking statements from the Egyptian state, as well as validity checking.
